Sarasota caregiver posts on 4/7/2007 8:37:28 AM I can atst that Mr. lanier is alive and in fair condition! I am a caregiver at the facility inwhich he resides! yes he has had a stroke, Yes he is suffering from alzheimers and dementia... Does it seem like he is capable or willing to write a 3rd book no his mind wanders at times he can be bitter over his current condition! There are days when he is extremely clear minded and will force those caring for him to debate over the most trivial of things. there are days when all he wants to do is lay in bed and be depressed, BUT unlike what has been stated here or speculated he is NOT dead just no longer the Sterling Lanier we hoped would dust off the type writer and hand us our dreams come true...Keep him in your thoughts and hearts remeber the joys and fears you felt reading his past work, share them w/ your children and grand children!
Mike posts on 3/27/2007 3:01:00 PM What website, exactly, posted a death notice on Sterling E. Lanier? A search of obits from the Sarasota newspapers and several Florida newspapers have turned up no record of his death. Do you know of any official obits? As a good friend of Sterling' from his Frederick, Md., days, I would be especially interested. As of the mid-80's, there was no plans by Sterling to write a third novel in the Heiro's Journey saga. As of that time, no manuscript, no partial manuscript, not even a presentable outline. In Sterling's own words: "What a tremendous bore that would be." In this instance of reported death, I would rather see verifiable and documented sources.

Alan J. Kammeyer posts on 3/20/2007 12:38:43 PM A lot of questions have been asked concerning Sterling E. Lanier's third Hiero novel. A lot of conjecture, speculation, and guessing has taken place trying to determine when or if the third novel will be published. Mr. Lanier passed away not too long ago. I learned of this from other websites. As a result, I e-mailed DelRey, his last publisher, and suggested that they communicate with his family to determine if there is an unfinished manuscript or at least notes that would allow a third novel to be written. Once this is established then they need to search for a current writer who would be able to finish the book or write it from the notes, thus giving us, his fans, what we've all been hungering for. DelRey replied and said that they would look into the possibility of doing this. Let's hope something comes of it. better yet, e-mail DelRey yourselves and if enough people encourage what I've suggested, they might just do it.

Galad Elflandsson posts on 2/13/2007 9:59:56 AM Regarding the small bronze sculptures at issue...Sterling did indeed create these miniatures. We knew each other & corresponded through the 80s and I own about a dozen of them.
Alan J. Kammeyer posts on 1/31/2007 10:41:56 AM I'm sorry to learn of Mr. Lanier's death. I'd often wondered about about the third book in the Heiro Trilogy since I discovered a calendar in 1977 which indicated that it was supposed to be a trilogy. You can imagine my excitement when The Unforsaken Heiro was published in 1983. Oh well. I certainly hope that DelRey books has the smarts to keep the two existing books in print.
Yael Dragwyla posts on 12/12/2006 1:15:30 AM My favorite of all Sterling Lanier's work is his duo THE UNFORSAKEN HIERO. The second novel in the set was obviously meant to have a sequel. I'd love to see it if anyone ever writes it. I'd also love to get audiobook versions of all his work, and somebody, somewhere, please make a movie out of THE UNFORSAKEN HEIRO! (And by the way, what in this is baby-talk, foul language, or otherwise unacceptable? Your site wouldn't accept it.)
Jerry posts on 11/25/2006 7:41:56 PM Will there be a third book in the series?
