Carlos "The Jackal", aka Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, whose character appears in "The Assignment", was a real terrorist. In 1994, he was finally arrested in Sudan by the French secret services, then condemned to a life sentence he's actually doing in a French prison. It's not a literary creation.

is this the same Carlos "the Jackal" from the Borne series?
If so, did Ludlum have anything to do with this movie?
