Laurie posts a message on 9/7/2007 11:57:00 AM Hi Jim, I've been in touch with Mike & we are both planning on meeing with you. How about the three of us conversing via e-mail? Let me know. Will that one morning be the only time you'll have for viewing scenes in the area? I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
Jim posts a message on 8/18/2007 1:59:04 PM Hi Laurie - I'm planning to be at RRC in the early morning of the 18th. Perhaps, we could all meet in Hagen Canyon parking lot, highly visible from hwy 14. sometime, around 9 AM. or is that too early???... By then, temperature should be comfortable. So. AZ, Temps are still in the triple digits!!!.

Martha posts a message on 8/18/2007 10:12:07 AM P.S. P.S. The horse they gave me to ride re Carol Baker for one scene 'ran off' with me at a walk after one of my fancy mounts. He just walked right out of the scene and I could not stop him. That was a first for me!
Martha posts a message on 8/18/2007 10:10:06 AM P.S. The book goes into detail about most of the more important films I worked on and the anecdotes therein. The funniest one was on Texas Lady doubling Claudette Colbert.
Martha posts a message on 8/18/2007 10:06:21 AM Jim and all! Jim that was the nice chestnut horse that Jean rode. He was very well schooled. She was married to SG at that time I believe. This book I am doing is called Fall Girl and is non-fiction. I am thrilled that the writer in Australia wants to do it. It is about the early days of polo and celebrity connections I grew up with as an entre into films. Did I tell you guys about how honored I was at the Golden Boot by Frank Stallone? What a nice person he is - and a real horseman. Love the sound of your trip.
Laurie posts a message on 8/18/2007 8:38:23 AM Hi Jim, It would be fun to have another on our "tour". A 4-wheel drive is needed for LCC, so my daughter has volunteerd hers. I will be sure to keep the 18th free. It's a work day, but I will be only too happy to take it off. How long will you be in the area? Mike has mentioned that he thought the curvy ride into "Blanco Canyon" was set in Jawbone Canyon (not far from RRC). I still have my doubts because the sides of the canyon do not look steep enough. That can be another adventure to take. Take care & keep posting.
Jim posts a message on 8/15/2007 12:28:15 PM Martha - I was just curious about that impressive high tail ride up the hill toward the "old house". Were you riding Jean Simmons' very own horse given by her then husband; Stewart Granger?. Keep us updated on the progress of your novel.
Martha posts a message on 8/15/2007 10:56:51 AM Hi all! Sorry I have not been posting. Just figured out that if my pop-up blocker is ON I cannot get in here! My computer has been down for two weeks and finally had to resort to erasing all off the hard drive and start over to cure the mysterious problem. I am writing two books at the same time and that is quit a juggling act all the while fighting the computer! I too am at a loss for the location of the last scene. I do know that it was drab, ugly country and that was a high long hill. I felt so sorry for that poor horse when we were asked to do that scene over and over and over as was the style of the director that I would get off and lead him back up the hill. Finally I collapsed in a heap on the last dismount apparently of a blood sugar drop and the whole incodent is a blur. I had not eaten breakfast and that caused the problem with the hill climbing! I so wish I could go with you all on your tour. Those memories are etched in gold in my memories. I had to laugh at Jean Simmons long time best friend when she came to the Golden Boot with Jean. She used to stand-in for Jean. She said they told her she had to do the bareback mounts and dismounts, etc. and she was terrified and just devastated. She laughed at how relieved she was to see me arrive on the set. They were really teasing her big time. I am going on the Mule Ride into the Grand Canyon in October and am really looking forward to that. Now that I know how to get back in here I can check in more often. All I was getting was the Poker page. Have a good time all.
Mike posts a message on 8/15/2007 9:49:45 AM Jim: Laurie and I are discussing the possibility of working out a schedule to meet you on or about October 18th. Would you like to email me at mathompa(at)hotmail. com?
