Ezekiel Zeke Steiner posts a message on 11/2/2005 8:07:07 PM The Informer may seem heavy-handed and obvious but it presents us with a textbook on the method that Ford was to refine over the decades until he became the recognized master of American cinema. Perhaps this film most clearly illustrates Ford's use of symbolic imagery, the story of an inarticulate man who cannot verbally express his guilt and self-revulsion. In place of dialogue Ford must make the external world represent the hidden dimensions of the man's soul.
