this is my favourite novel and Findley's best (though his other novels are really great, read them if you can!) im glad to see that some others here like the novel as well...the animals represent innocence (that of the soldiers) that they had and (it could be argued) that they've lost. sexuality is also present - not just with the rape scene and with Barbara, but also because Robert and the others are engaged in a physical war, Robert's physical side is important to him. also gender - what it means to be a man and the pressures and expectations surrounding. good luck!

Never heard of this author. Wasn’t completely crazy about his book either. not in to wars). Nonetheless, have to deal with it for school purposes, what can say ( I, I’m Canadian!) .WHAT the does the water symbolise? And why does Robert breaking the water jug in "16" piece after he gets raped? Those are the two wonders of my world!! sixteen times! Why why? ( I just don’t get it) If you know help a girl out. But pls, no bullshit .ok!….if you don’t know don’t make up something just don’t respond.

This is definately the best novel I have ever read. This is in terms of how it made me feel, and the emotions I experienced during my reading of it. Simply put, I loved it.

How do you think sexuality is represented in Timothy Findley's THE WARS? Especially in terms of homosexuality?... i need to write an extremely long essay on this...any help?
