sc wang posts on 9/16/2005 5:53:48 PM I recently read "marrying Buddha". I found it in the same vein as "Shanghai Baby", again full of sex, GLBT,agnes in development in people as well as in cities. There is not deep spiritual manifestation as the title of the book proclaims.Wei HUi needs to deepen and philosophize herself in the novel instead of indulging in these shallow daily matters. She needs to delve deep into the permanent stuff in life including, but not limited to, sex and drugs. There are more in life than being offered in her books. The life in Shanghai and New York are more comprehensive and profound than she claims.

Jo posts on 6/23/2005 11:29:35 AM I totally felt in love with the book "shanghai Baby". It tells such a sad but touched story. I was born in China but I have been living in Europe for many years now. I don't understand why China banned this book. I now start readin the 2nd book "Marrying Buddha".
