Winston Groom Message Board

Edward B. Cummings posts on 11/27/2011 10:25:34 PM I am enjoying "1942" by Winston Groom but came acoss, on page 382,top, the reference that German tanks in WWII ran on diesel fuel while Allied tanks, because they ran on gasoline, "burned like torches" when hit. The German tanks were NOT diesel-powered and also ran on 87 octane gasoline, just like the Allies' trucks, jeeps, and armoed vehicles. This "diesel myth" was also put forth in the movie "Patton" and is NOT true. All references in technical manuals to the engines that powered the German tanks specify that they operated on gasoline, not diesel fuel.
Joa posts on 1/6/2006 6:08:00 PM Hello! I'm a student of Applied Linguistics. I'd like to ask anyone who could help me find any book or internet article referring to and discussing the way "Forrest Gump" is written, its convention, style and purpose of author's doing so. I need it to write my licentiate (BA academic work). Regards ///Joa
