like many others i don't really know where to begin.I only heard of 'sold' a few days ago when my freind recommended it to me. i couldn't put the book down and completed it in two days......i was shocked and horrified!! and most of all i felt sadness and anger. since reading the book i have not been able to stop thinking about it and decided that i had to find out if Nadia, her children and Marcus have been reunited with Zana and the rest of the family. i was delighted to see the message posted that they have! alhamdulillah i pray that you all recieve all the happiness in the world and pray that ALLAH give equal strength to those who are still in this situation... ameen xx

(continued)"Hi,Thank you for your kind note. Nadia and the children are indeed back in England now, and Marcus came looking for his mother as soon as he turned 18, just as Zana always hoped he would. So, we have a happy ending at last.Thank you for caring enough to write.Best wishes,Andrew Crofts."

Since reading about Zana and Nadia not a day goes by without wondering if Nadia is alright, alive and how these things happen, why does it have to happen in this day and age? My heart breaks for the whole family, inparticular Miriam and Zana and Tina and Aisha and Moh, not to forget Abdul and Laila. I'm such a blessed and lucky person and better having read their story. Keep fighting th4 good fight, Kind Regards, Suzy

Hello everyone. Like everyone on this discussion board,i have been most eager to find out whether Nadia, the children & Marcus ever came to their true home. So i emailed Andrew Crofts (the ghostwriter who wrote sold&Promise to Nadia, with Zana) to ask the same question couple of days ago. And he replied;

Dearest Zana, i have read both of your books as well as your mothers. I dont know where to begin, i almost feel useless saying this now, and too late to help now after 28 years when your nighmare began, but all i can say is i am absolutely devastated. I know many horriable things happen in this seemingly cruel world we live in now.
It has been one of the most heart breaking books i have ever read. It really does upset me that such horrendous things can be done in the name of religion (i.e. your father claiming he wanted you both, not to forget Leilah & Ahmed, to be brought up as good muslims). I am a practicing Muslim and no where in Islam does it ever permit; forced marriages, rape, beatings & degrading treatment of women. Although it may be presented that way, with the constant maligning from critics of international media.
The crooks in your books claimed 'cultural' practices to be Islamic whereas it clearly is forbidden in Islam. Nonetheless, all of those who wronged your entire family will surely pay their price with guilt & misery in life.
Please do let us know if Nadia is now free. That would be most heart contenting to know. You are a very couregeous & brave women. A true role model for those in similar situations and despair. Keep strong. I wish you and your family all the best in the world and a life full of happiness.
Love and silent prayers always.

you should all go and check out the Guardian at www.guardian.co.uk. Read the article filed earlier this year (2008) where the Guardian journalist interviews Nadia in the Yemen - with no-one else present.
I don't think that anything said here cancels out the horror of what happened to both Zana and Nadia, but at least one now knows Nadia is still alive and according to this report anyway, doing well.

hi zana i hope all is well... i have read both your books in fact i have just read 'a promise to nadia' i couldnt put the book now i read it in 1day... too many years have evaporated..? still no results. i have a sister called Nadia 1year younger than me, my goodness i would have died for her by now if she was in that situation... NO WAY NO WAY she would be still there!! NO WAY (by the way i am Yemeni, living in the uk... i have been Yemen many times.. i know totaly how the drill works) i know u have tried your best but i sit there and think decades have past and nothing is done?? the small chances that u got to meet her in Sana.. i was yelling at the pages 'grab her... and go....' and surly within time the kids will 100% join..." im not saying u havent done ur utmost best i know u have..yet im puzzled with how long its stretched out,,,, even if one had to throw themselves to the government buildings.. tie yourself to the gates, throw eggs at the walls anything to be seen and heard!!! ... some1 with authority surly would have come to ur aid by now.... were in 2008 .... im not superwomen, but surly i know i could be if my sister was trapped,,,, it seems like Nadia has excepted her destiny.. she needs to stay focus and know that she will leave,,,, that is what she really wants or is it?? from the bottom of my heart i pray for peace love and happiness for for u all xxxxx keep us updated Zana... thanks
