Detailed plot synopsis reviews of 1408

Mike is a jaded writer still mourning the loss of his young daughter. He pursues places that are "haunted" and then writes about them. Mike does not believe in the supernatural but deep inside him, he longs to somehow connect to his departed daughter. He gets a postcard about a haunted hotel room in New York, room 1408, and decides to check in. The hotel manager gives him its grisly history, claiming that many deaths have occurred there and that no one lasts an hour. Undaunted, he still checks in. As soon as he settles, he experiences visions of ghosts who have died in the room. He is attacked by a murderer. He hallucinates that the room is being flooded— basically, he feels like he is losing his mind. When he connects to the outside world via internet to get help, his ex-wife tells him that people have checked the room and that he isn't in it. In one vision, he sees his young daughter, and upon embracing her she crumbles away. The room is pushing him to kill himself, ending up like all its other inhabitants, but Mike burns the room down instead, and the hotel is evacuated and he is taken out. He lives to tell the tale, and is now a firm believer of things unexplained.

Best part of story, including ending: Because it does the job of scaring you, regardless that the setting only takes place in one location.

Best scene in story: When he looks out the window, and sees his reflection on the glass that he's about to be murdered by a sadistic killer.

Opinion about the main character: Although he's in denial about ghosts, deep down he knows that something's out there.
