1492: CONQUEST OF PARADISE was directed by Ridley Scott in 1992.
For seven years now, Christopher Columbus, an Italian sailor, has tried to persuade the Spanish authorities to send him to explore the territories located beyond the Atlantic Ocean. Columbus is sure to reach thus the Indies more quickly than while passing by the East. He finally manages to persuade the Queen Isabelle de Castille to grant her support to him. With his three ships, Columbus arrives at the island of San Salvador after 10 weeks of navigation. Columbus never uses violence with the natives he meets on the islands he discovers. After having left forty settlers on the island of Hispaniola, he returns to Spain to submit his report.

Although Columbus could bring back only little gold of his tour, he obtains from the Queen the authorization to organize a second expedition intended to explore the territories more methodically in order to carry back wealths in Spain finally. This time, Colombus is accompanied by noble ones who don't agree with his way of organizing the administrative life of Natividad, the first city created on the American territory. The colony is now more and more often attacked by tribes of enemy Indians and Colombus, after four years spent on Hispaniola, still did not find gold on the island. He must even now deal with the rebellion of Moxica, a noble Spanish, who decided to get rid of Colombus and his two brothers. When Colombus returns finally to Spain, the bad news arrived before him and he is thrown in prison by Isabelle of Castille.
