A remote Alaskan town covered in complete darkness is attacked by vicious vampires. Eben is a sheriff of a small isolated town, Barrow, Alaska that experiences a month of total darkness during the winter solstice. During this time, most of the residents leave, leaving a handful of people. Eben's ex-wife Stella misses the last flight out and stays behind. A strange man arrives and kills communications, sabotages the town chopper and remaining transportation. He is like a raving lunatic, so Eben detains him at the station. A group of vampires arrive, further cutting off power and telecoms. They attack Eben and Stella but they escape to the town diner, so do the other survivors. Meanwhile, Marlow, the vampire leader goes to the station and kills the stranger mentioned earlier. Eben and some others hide in an empty house, in the attic and wait it out. Eben wants to move the people to the station, so he runs to his grandma's house where she kept UV-lamps, and lures vampires in and kills them. Later on, Eben's deputy Billy runs into them, and says that some others have hidden at the power station, which was still running. Eben and Billy go there, and run from vampires. Billy is bitten, and Eben kills him out of pity. The 30 days are almost up and the sun will shine soon, the vampires burn the town down as they prepare to leave. Eben has taken some of Billy's blood and injects himself. He turns, and he and Marlow have a last battle, and Eben kills him. As the sun rises, Eben has no choice but to face his fate. He disintegrates as the light touches his skin.

Best part of story, including ending:
It's a good premise for a vampire film, having the winter solstice as the perfect time to wreak havoc on a town.
Best scene in story:
When a blizzard covers the town, and Eben runs out blind to get to the store.
Opinion about the main character:
Eben is left with very little resources and wits to survive the ordeal, but he does so successfully because of his risky decisions.
