Produced and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, 'After Earth' released in 2013. It was one of the best science fiction movies at that time. It's about a father and son fighting for survival on a hostile future Earth. May not be a classic, but a spectacular and wise movie. Smith plays a veteran space soldier, while his son Jaden from 'The Karate Kid' just failed a cadet promotion test.

Humans have left Earth and colonized on the distant planet Nova Prime. Unfortunately, another species were already on that planet and they didn't like humans and created predators called 'ursas' to hunt them down.
When humans carried a package of one 'ursas' to deliver somewhere far including Cypher and Kitai, their ship crashed on Earth. Cypher and Kitai are the only survivors of that ship. Their distress beacon has been destroyed in the crash. Cypher's legs are broken. His son Kitai has to make the journey alone to find out the missing beacon device. But out there, so many terrific creatures are waiting for the kid, including the 'ursas'. He fought every one of them and killed the 'ursas' with his bravery and courage. At last Kitai found their lost beacon.
Best part of story, including ending:
In future, we may have to leave our loving planet Earth. For survival we may have to take necessary and brave actions. This film is based on these plots. I really like the science fiction of it.
Best scene in story:
When Kitai intended to start the beacon on the mountain and the 'ursas' found him, he fought like a matured brave and fearless soldier. He has to save his father and return to their colony.
Opinion about the main character:
The main character is just a kid. Actually it had to be a kid. I like his intention. He just failed his cadet test, and yet didn't give up. He showed us how to survive in a toughest situation where nobody is there to help.
