Amelie is a young French woman with a life devoid of close friends and romance. Because of her lonely childhood, she has developed a whimsical air. She sees a mysterious man in the train station and after finding something he has left behind, she goes on a journey to find him and essentially herself, while helping many along the way.

Amelie Poulain is a shy waitress who helps many people along the way and doesn't expect anything in return. She then finds herself falling for a man, but is too shy to tell him.

Amelie Poulain is a lonely girl in her early 20s who arrives in Paris seeking her destiny after an unfortunate childhood with neurotic parents. Extremely shy, she has trouble meeting "the one" and decides that if she can't make herself happy for the moment, she'll make others happy in the meantime. Her journey to finding that perfect someone leads to humorous situations involving her quirky friends and co-workers. She eventually finds the perfect man who is exactly like her in just about every way and they live "happily ever after". An excellent offering from Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Amelie is a beautiful movie. Amelie sets out on quest to help others make their lives better. While on her quest she finds love. She now has a new challange, to find her love. It's a funny and cute movie. It helps put life in perspective.

At the heart of this movie, a waitress develops a romance with a clerk in a porno shop. Though that may seem a quotidian plot indeed after director Jean-Pierre Jeunet's past astonishing films ("Delicatessen," "The City of Lost Children"), it hardly begins to encompass the magic, wonder, and oddball sentimentality of this delightful film. (The original French title is "The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain.") Amelie is an innocent and dreamy girl, barely 20, who grew up isolated and unloved with the waifish gamine looks of young Audrey Hepburn. Now she waits tables in Central Paris, skips stones on the reservoir, and tries to improve (or, in the case of a bullying grocer, punish) the lives around her, somewhat like the heroine of "Cold Comfort Farm." But the inventiveness of the plot, the sheer joy and sly wizardry of the camera, far outstrip any verbal description of this enthralling story, which somehow makes the everyday seem utterly suffused with potential and magic, and revives the beauty of that amazing city of Paris. As Amelie, Tautou is utterly beguiling.
