Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Arthur

Arthur is an absurdly rich lush who falls in love with a poor woman. His grandmother, however, says she will "cut him off without a cent" if he doesn't marry the daughter of a tough older man with even more money than Arthur's family. What Arthur decides to do depends on how much he can grow up in a short period of time.

"Arthur" is a charming comedy about a sweet, wealthy alcoholic playboy and his search for love and maturity. Dudley Moore plays the title character, a man who has evaded responsibility all of his life as his family money took care of him. But he is a dreamer and doesn't want to marry for anything but love. Until his family tells him he will lose his inheritance and be cut off if he doesn't marry a particular rich girl with an influential father. But Arthur accidentally finds love with a spicy, funny working class waitress (Liza Minelli). With Arthur throughout is his loyal butler Mr. Hobson (John Gielgud in an Oscar-winning performance), the man who loves Arthur like a father and is always willing to upbraid him when necessary. Mr. Hobson is the man who teaches Arthur the meaning of intelligence, maturity and strength of character. Can Arthur stand up for himself and for love with all of the money at stake?
