This movie shows that one person CAN make a difference. Jasmin, a plus-sized German tourist, is driving through the Mojave Desert when she has a fight with her husband. She gets out of the car and heads for the nearest sign of civilization -- a ramshackable motel/restaurant/gas station. Brenda, the African American woman who owns the place, is in a foul mood; she's just kicked her husband out, her kids are acting up, and there's not much money in the till. Brenda is suspicious of her new tenant, perhaps because the two of them come from such disparate worlds. Then Jasmin begins to help around the premises. Armed with only a mop, a box of magic tricks, and an unflagging air of serenity, the dowdy hausfrau transforms Brenda's joint into a popular roadside spot. This not only sweetens Brenda's disposition and allows her kids to flourish; it also leads to Jasmin blossoming into a voluptuous artist's model.
