Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Balls of Fury

A former ping-pong great engages in a black market ping-pong competition to the death, in order to help the FBI get close to a nefarious criminal. Randy Daytona is a child prodigy at the sport of ping-pong, even competing for the American Olympic team. However, when he loses in embarrassing fashion to the German expert, Karl, his father loses a bet and is murdered by Feng, a nefarious criminal. Now an adult, Daytona does ping-pong tricks at a casino to make ends meet. He is soon approached by FBI agent Ernie Rodriguez, who gives him a chance to avenge his father's death. Feng runs an underground black market ping-pong tournament, and Rodriguez wants to enter Daytona into the competition so that he may serve as a spy. They begin playing in Chinatown, with the hopes of getting noticed by Feng's scouts; eventually, they are picked up and taken to Feng's secret hideout. Daytona panics, however, when he beats his first opponent and his opponent is murdered with a poisoned dart as punishment for his failure. Feng admires Daytona's talent and begins to confide in him, and Daytona passes along every illegal thing he hears to Rodriguez, in hopes of getting out of there as quickly as possible. He keeps defeating his opponents, who keep getting killed, but as he nears the finals, he realizes he will be facing Karl, the same German that got his father killed back in the day. He asks Rodriguez to injure him so he can't play Karl, but he changes his mind, deciding to live up to his fears... only after Rodriguez breaks his arm. He must go into the finale one-handed, defeat Karl, and bring down Feng once and for all.

Best part of story, including ending: This is a very silly parody, which is generally my thing, but there simply aren't enough laughs to sustain this over the run time of a feature film.

Best scene in story: The final ping pong game between Daytona and Feng leaves the table and goes all across Feng's secret hideout, making it a surprisingly nifty action sequence.

Opinion about the main character: Daytona is a typical sports hero in a lot of ways, but the actor who plays him, Dan Fogler, doesn't really have the gift of immediate empathy as a performer.
