Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Blue Hawaii

Returning home to Hawaii after two years in the army, Chad Gates (Elvis Presley) is met at the airport by his French-Hawaiian girlfriend, Maile Duval (Joan Blackman.) Chad wants to chart his own life, and is not enthused about his parents' plan that he start working at his dad's Great Southern Hawaiian Fruit Company. So rather than going straight home to see them, he has Maile drive him to a beach shack, where he hides out for five days, romping in the surf with her, and surfing and singing with his buddies.

The gig is up when his father Fred, (Roland Winters,) finds out. Chad's airheaded, elitist mother, Sarah Lee, (Angela Lansbury,) pressures him to drop his "beach bum" friends and "that native girl," and start "respectable work." In defiance, Chad gets himself a job at the Hawaii Tourist Guide business where Maile works; and, he brings Maile and his buddies to the welcome home party his mother throws for him.

His first job as a tour guide assigns him to four teenage girls and their attractive chaperone, teacher Abigail Prentice (Nancy Walters.) He takes them to pineapple fields and out sailing and rowing, and teaches them the finer points of surf board propelling and, at a beach party, sand "slicing". One of the girls, Ellie, (Jenny Maxwell,) is a pouty, suacy brat, whose flirtatious antics lead Chad into a brawl, which lands him in jail, which prompts his boss to fire him, which prompts Maile to quit her job, too. (Fortunately, his musical buddies go to the slammer with him, so at least he can enjoy himself serenading the other prisoners while serving time.) His father bails him out, and warns him to straighten up and accept his fate at the fruit company.

Instead, Chad devises a plan. He has Maile make reservations for him to go away for three days with Miss Prentice and the girls, promising Maile a celebration upon his return. While he's gone, Maile shows up to surprise him. What she sees when she looks through the window into his room hurts and incences her. Now, Chad must mend not only his job situation, but his relationship with Maile.
