Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Bridesmaids

As the film opens we find Annie Walker, still not fully recovered from the loss of her cake business and long time boyfriend, wrestling with depression and self-loathing by engaging in an empty “sex only” relationship with a man named Ted. While she hopes the relationship could mean something more, Anne goes along with Ted's suggestion that they remain “sex buddies”.

The bakery drained all of her savings so Annie is reduced to working the counter at a jewelry store, a job given to her by her mother's AA sponsor. This lack of funds forces her to share an apartment with with an obnoxious British brother and sister who don't respect her privacy.

When she is asked to be the maid of honor in her best friend Lillian's wedding, Annie, while happy for Lillian, feels more than ever that her life is falling apart.

At Lillian's engagement party held in a plush country club, Annie meets Helen, the wife of Lillian's fiancé's boss. Annie and Helen begin to compete for Lillian's affection and attention making Annie feel more isolated from her best friend and confirming, in her mind at least, that her life is in shambles.

After a series of misfortunes befall the bridal party though a combination of Annie trying too hard and Helen's sabotage, Annie's party planning duties are stripped from her and given to Helen.

Things for Annie goes from bad to worse after her friendship with a policeman Nathan Rhodes, who she starts a flirtation relationship with, is on the rocks, she is evicted from her apartment by her British roommates and fired from her retail job after swearing at a teenager.

At an over-the-top Paris themed bridal shower Helen throws for Lillian, Annie has a complete mental breakdown. Her handmade gift is overshadowed by Helen's two tickets to Paris, an idea Annie expressed earlier, which Helen stole.

After creating a scene and destroying the decorations at the bridal shower Annie is kicked out and told not to come to the wedding by Lillian. But after Lillian goes missing, Helen and Annie have to put their differences aside to find their friend before her big day is ruined.
Best part of story, including ending: The temptation is to believe that Bridesmaids is a woman's re-imagining of The Hangover. It is more than that. While it is difficult to argue which one is funnier, Bridesmaids certainly has a more layered plot which allows the main character to display a wider emotional range. Bridesmaids is funny, no it's hilarious and everyone in it is as well.

Best scene in story: For my money, the bridal shower scene was the best. It was all at once the funniest and most difficult scene to watch.

Opinion about the main character: The only complaint I have about the movie is that Annie, the main character, is not likable. Don't get me wrong, you want things to work out for her but probably not in the same way she wishes thing to work out. You watch the movie hoping she is taught a lesson. Not win the guy or thwart Helen's efforts to replace her as Lillian's best friend, you want her to learn that she is not the center of the universe. Anne is selfish, insular, childish and self-destructive. So much so you hope she hits rock bottom so she can become a better person.
