Southern fourth grade teacher Jane Richards has a quite a disruption in her classroom with 11-year-old C.T.Young,a troubled youngster who often goes against the rules inside and outside the school, which can explain his troublesome ways with Miss Richards. Young is branded as a rebel who like to make up tall lies but Richards somehow feels that she can be the one to break in the boy. Believing that he has the potential overcome his ways, Richards finds out Young is very fond of nature, as he spends time daily watching a caterpillar in a tree.

Richards suprisingly finds that her young student soft spot is his love for his family, especially of his little sister Tanya. Tanya is a very sick child that soon dies of pneumonia, despite Dr. Mitchell doing his very best to save her life. The death of his sister left him devastated to the point where he stay away from school for awhile. But when he returned, Young got involved in a fight with another boy and were punish for his misbehavior.

Despite his anger of the loss of his sister and running into his bad habits once again, the young boy is met with adversity as a swarm of bees comes into the classroom and scares most of the students. Knowing how to control the bees because his interest in nature itself, C.T rescues the children, Miss Richards and caputures the queen bee all by himself. It is a possbility for a new attitude and outlook on life for C.T. But with Miss Richards opening him up, will his good attitude last?
