This movie has an unusual setting, in an exclusive fencing salon, run by a former champion named Alexander Villard. Max Suba, an ex-convict, asks him for a job as an instructor, but Villard hires him as a janitor. Later, he gives him the job of teaching beginners. Suba is kinder to students than Villard.

Through flashbacks, we learn that Villard's father had been killed in a fencing duel by Suba. The movie ends with a dramatic scene of a duel between the two protagonists in which Villard seeks revenge.
Best part of story, including ending:
It explored the zen of fencing. I used to be a fencer.
Best scene in story:
When Eric Roberts' character is alone in the salon and goes through different fencing moves. It's very poetic.
Opinion about the main character:
I like his inner strength and discipline.
