Captain Corelli's Mandolin is essentially a love story taking place on a Greek Island during WWII. Heroine falls in love with an enemy soldier and calls off her engagement to a local boy. At wars end the soldier fails to return to her, however several years later he finds he cannot live without her and does return to claim her love
