Charlotte Gray, a Scottish thick-headed young woman, decides to join the British Intelligence Service in order to find her boyfriend, a British pilot whose airplane has crashed in France. Parachuted near a small town of the Vichy ruled part of France, she's soon involved in the Resistance activities of the local group led by Billy Crudup. She'll have to hide in the farm of Crudup's father and take care of two young Jewish boys. She'll also manage to learn that her boyfriend has died in the plane accident. While their friends are little by little being killed or caught by the police or the Nazis, Charlotte and Billy will fall in love.
