In Robert Altman's dramatic comedy about love, talk radio personality Dr. Nancy Love (Bujold) dispenses sage advice to the lovelorn despite the fact that her affairs of the heart are non-existent. She refuses to be drawn into discussions regarding her sex life with callers. Anonymously calling herself Ann, she moves in with one of her biggest fans, a caller named Eve (Warren) who is a former prostitute turned bar owner. Into Eve's life and bar is a slightly unbalanced man named Mickey (Carradine). He is attracted to Eve from the start, but she is reluctant to get to know him as he tells her he is a pathological liar. A young woman named Pearl (Chong) and her husband Zack (Bauchau) fall into the lives of Eve, Mickey, and Ann with suspicions all around of infidelities with the opposite partner.

She flips out climbing up onto the roof and threatening suicide. After wrestling Zack's gun from him, Mickey finds Eve and is willing to end his life too unless they can reconcile and consider life together.
