When Keithy's friends put out a $10,000 contract on him, Chopper just laughs it off. But when his best friend (Simon Lyndon) stabs him repeatedly in an attempt to collect, Chopper knows he's in trouble. Arranging to have his own ears sliced off, he wins release by claiming that the injuries are the result of an attempt on his life.
Now back on the streets of Melbourne, Chopper alternately works as a paid informer for the police and carries on a longstanding fued with a big-time drug dealer (Vince Colosimo), who Chopper shot in the leg a decade ago.
When the increasingly paranoid Chopper shoots and kills a criminal (Serge Liistro) who may or may not have been planning to collect on one of the many contracts on his life, he goes on a trial in the middle of a media circus and begins to fall in love with the limelight.
