Following the events of the first film, a brilliant inventor named Chester V is assigned the difficult task of cleaning up the food-covered island. Chester has a secret mission, however: to find our hero Flint Lockwood's machine and use it for his own nefarious purposes. Flint and the residents of Swallow Falls have all been relocated to California, where they grow homesick. Flint, who has idolized Chester V his whole life, goes to work for him, but ends up humiliating himself when his inventions are deemed faulty. Chester finds a task for Flint: he informs Flint that the food has become sentient and is desperate to cross the ocean and make landfall in America. Flint and his crew must set out for home, find his machine, and help destroy it so it can't create more dangerous food animals. When they arrive on their home island, they find it overgrown like a jungle, populated to the brim with food animals; some are small and cute, others huge and ferocious. Flint's crew seems to suspect the intentions of Chester V, but Flint refuses to see any ill will in the heart of his hero. When they realize that the food animals, even the largest ones, mean human beings no harm, they must find a way to stop Chester V and his evil plot.
