CROUPIER is a British movie directed by Mike Hodges in 1998.
Jack Manfred is a writer desperately looking for inspiration and money. He accepts a position as a croupier in a local casino. From this moment on, inspiration comes back and Jack starts to write a novel called "I, Croupier" by taking a leaf out of what he sees at the casino every night. A few weeks later, a regular gambler -Jani de Villiers- asks Jack whether he wants to be the inside man during the heist of the casino that will occur soon. After some hesitation, Jack accepts and earns 10,000 pounds. While his book is becoming a bestseller, Jack the writer is slowly changing into Jake the croupier, a man who likes to silently observe the gamblers, their behaviour and their personal dramas.
