Dr. Mulligan helps Daryl to escape a military laboratory and dies in a car accident. Daryl is then trusted to the Richardson family by the local authorities. The young boy is in fact an experimental robot made temporarily amnesic by Mulligan. During his stay at the Richardson's, Daryl will become the best friend of his young neighbor Turtle and impress Joyce and Andy Richardson by his facility to learn and master all kinds of things. Daryl manages to get very well integrated in the family and starts to experience human feelings. So when Dr. Jeffrey Stewart finally finds him, Daryl's departure will cause a great deal of sorrow among all those who've known him. Back in the laboratory, Daryl is already thinking about a way to definitively leave the scientists.
