Dr. Robert Leaf is a college professor who is very fond of artistic creativity of music and art and encourage his children 8-year-old son Erasmus and older daughter Pandora to participate in these talents. But Leaf and his wife Vina is not too thrilled about their discovery of their son being tone deaf, colorblind and only interested and brilliant in mathematics.

While Pandora uses her brother to excel in her math studies, Erasmus and his older friend Kenneth comes up with a idea for Erasmus's dad to win the horse races with his great mathematical skills. Their secret does unfold as two con men Upjohn and Argyle notice the boys knows which horse has the best chance to win the race and is willing to use Erasmus as a "lucky charm" to bet on the horses.
UpJohn and Argyle makes a deal with Dr. Leaf by using some their horse track winnings so it can go to a humanitarian scholarship. Robert takes up their offer only to find he were conned. However Erasmus has become starry-eyed over French beauty Brigitte Bardot- the boy even written love letters to Bardot. Still distraught over the fact he'd been taken advantage of, Dr. Leaf pleads that Erasmus uses his great math skills at the horse race again to make some more money. But Erasmus refuses unless he get to meet his secret admirer Brigitte in person.
