A typical high-quality, low-budget Roger Corman film. It is about a race where the object is not only to finish first but to score the most points as well. The catch is that the way to score points is to run down pedestrians. The very old and very young are worth the most points. The race was created as a form of population control. The time of the film is a repressive society in the near future and this race has become the national event replacing the Super Bowl. John Carradine stars as the race's defending champion, Frankenstein. A pre-Rocky Sylvester Stallone is another of the competitors. The whole film is VERY campy as the racers are different characters that even pro-wrestling would turn down. But this year's race is different, some freedom fighters have put a spy in as Frankenstein's navigator to recruit him or kill him.
