Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) is an eleven year old middle kid just entering middle school. He is very confident and wants to be popular. On the first day of school, Greg and Rowley meet a member of the school's paper who is a seventh grader. Her name is Angie. Over the year, she helps them with tips to make it through middle school. Another classmate, Chriag, tells them about the game of "Cheese Touch".

Greg wants to be the favorite of the class in the yearbook. However, another classmate Patty wins instead and Greg isn't as popular anymore. Over break Greg breaks Rowley's hand when they are playing. When they go back to school Rowley's broken hand makes him popular. Greg and Rowley now have a fading friendship.

After a school play in which Greg tries to re-conciliate with Rowley. Greg and his mom go out for ice cream. His mom wants him to ask Rowley to come. Shortly, after the students are playing Cheese Touch. When Patty tries to tell Rowley that he is creating a Cheese Touch Apocalypse, Greg comes in and saves him.
Best part of story, including ending: I really like this story because it is great for families. This teaches kids the meaning of true friendship.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene is when Greg steps in and saves Rowley from the children who are telling him he created a Cheese Touch Apocalypse because it shows real friendship.

Opinion about the main character: I like the main character because he is dedicated to making amends with his best friend even if it means taking the blame at the end for something that he did not do.
