This is a popular movie for ‘muscle car' lovers looking for car chases on film. The plot concerns a NASCAR stock car driver called Larry Rayder, played by Peter Fonda, and his mechanic named Deke Sommers. They carry out a successful robbery at a supermarket by taking the wife and daughter of the stores's manager hostage and walk away with $150,000. They want this money to bankroll their aim to get a new car and get big in the world of stock car racing.

Unfortunately for Rayder, he hits a complication when a previous one-night stand, in the shape of Mary Coombs played by Susan George, shows up. She insists on coming along as they try to make their escape in a Chevrolet Impala. Captain Franklin, a sheriff in hot pursuit, and his officers have no chance in keeping pace with the Impala. The three outlaws change cars, continuing their escape in a Dodge Charger. They still manage to outmaneuver the police, but fate has something else in store…
Best part of story, including ending:
I liked the exciting pace and suspense.
Best scene in story:
For sheer excitement, the helicopter scene, when it's hovering over the racing car.
Opinion about the main character:
Dislike his amorality
