Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Divergent

In the distant future, one girl holds the key to keeping a faction of society from attempting a takeover of the rest. In the future, a huge war leads to a solution for an ideal society: everyone is divided up into groups based on their best feature. These groups are Erudite (smart people), Dauntless (brave people), Abnegation (selfless people), Candor (truthful people), and Amity (nice people). Beatrice is a teenager whose family belongs to Abnegation, although she questions whether she belongs there. On the day of her personality test to determine which group to which she will eventually belong, the test giver, a woman named Tori, is shocked at the results. She informs Beatrice that she is Divergent, meaning she is suited for multiple groups. Beatrice is urged to tell no one this, and she complies. She tells her family and others that she belongs to Abnegation, which makes everyone happy. However, when they officially choose which group they will go to, she picks Dauntless, surprising everyone she knows. She proceeds into training, where the leader of Dauntless, Eric, tells them the simple truth: they must past every chapter of their Dauntless training, otherwise they will be deemed factionless and must spend the rest of their lives without a home. Beatrice changes her name to Tris and begins training, struggling at first, but eventually thriving. She also meets and begins to feel romantic feelings for a young Dauntless named Four. However, she eventually inadvertently uncovers an evil plot: the Erudite leader, Jeanine, plans to take over every group, starting with the most easily conquered: Abnegation, including her family. With the help of Four, she must find a way to outsmart and outfight the Erudites-- even after they create a serum to control the minds of all of their Dauntless friends.

Best part of story, including ending: This is a pretty boring, very cliched dystopian-future young adult film. It has a nonsensical set-up, and it seems to make up the rules as it goes.

Best scene in story: In one scene, a girl is forced to hold on for her life while dangling over a huge chasm in order to prove she is Dauntless. It's the most intense scene in the film.

Opinion about the main character: Shailene Woodley is a wonderful actress, and she brings as much life as she can to a character that isn't written to have a great deal of personality.
