Doctor Dolittle Movie Review Summary

Actors: Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Doctor Dolittle

Eddie Murphy plays Doctor Dolittle, the man who talks to the animals. This movie has very little similarity with the original movie or children's story, except that Dr. Dolittle DOES talk to animals. This version is set in modern times, with Doctor Dolittle, a hot-shot doctor in a big hospital with prestigious partners. Oliver Platt plays one of his partners. Peter Boyle plays an executive who is interested in merging his business with the partners. As a child, Dolittle talked to his dog and started to act like it. His father banished the dogs and all animals from the house. Years later, one day Dr. Dolittle hits a dog with his car and bumps his head when he swerves off the road. Suddenly, he can hear the dog talking to him. And the pigeons. And the seagulls. And everything! All the voices around him drive him a little crazy. His partners need him to transact business but he can't concentrate. His family needs him, but he's busy hiding the fact he can hear animals talking. His daughter needs him because she always feels left out of things at school because she's too "weird." She's just simply too intelligent for the rest of them. His wife and partner think he's nuts and even have him committed to a mental hospital. He promises the head nut there that he's not talking to animals any more, so he can get released. Now he has to figure out a way to deal with the voices in his head or make it go away. He gets a great opportunity to prove his gift and to put it to good use. Voices of the animals provided by Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Norm McDonald, and others. Norm as the guinea pig is especially entertaining.

Eddie Murphy plays a doctor who can talk to animals and has a virtual zoo in his house. All the animals can talk, too, with Chris Rock as the hamster dropping hilarious lines. Murphy and his animal buddies return for a sequel, too! Although this movie is not as funny as the Nutty Professor, it remains the greatest talking-animal movie ever made!
