Al (Freddie Prinze Jr) is a sophomore and Imogen (Julia Stiles) is a freshmen at college in New York. They meet in a club one night and immmediately hit it off. They quickly fall in love with each other and begin to think they are perfect for each other. However, true love never runs smoothly and they split up after an argument one night at a party when Al finds out that Imogen didn't tell him about one of her new art projects. Distressed and upset, Imogen sleeps with another man and they decide to go their separate ways. However, neither Imogen nor Al can stop thinking about each other.
