While Kristin is trying to locate him, Xan is now in the middle of a desert where he meets Ripkuna, a man who's decided to come back to his tribe after having spent a few years in the most important cities of the country. Ripkuna would like to make some money by selling Duma to a circus but the smart Xan manages to get rid of him by leaving him in an abandoned diamond mine. Later, Xan must cross with Duma a river filled with crocodiles. Then, he's attacked by lions and he's saved by Duma and Ripkuna who followed him. Near his village, Ripkuma is bitten by Tse-Tse flies and gets sick. Xan tries to reach the village in order to find help.
