Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Duplicity

Two spies, hired by corporations, try to gain the upper hand on both their employer corporations and each other. Two pharmaceutical companies, Burkett & Randle and Equikrom, are locked in a vicious rivalry. The hatred between the two companies is so strong that it has led to fist fights between the CEOs, Howard Tully (of Burkett & Randle) and Dick Garsik (of Equikrom). Ray is a spy working for Equikrom waiting for a contact, when he sees Claire, another spy who years earlier pretended to fall for him so that she could drug him and steal documents in his possession. Ray approaches her with the intention of discussing the past, when he discovers that she is in fact his contact he was sent to meet. Claire works for Equikrom as well: she has been working at Burkett & Randle for over a year, passing any information she can grab back to Equikrom, and Ray is hired to be the new go-between for her and Dick Garsik. Claire passes along to Garsik a copy of a speech written by Tully in which Burkett & Randle announces they are going to change the pharmaceutical game with a new product the likes of which have never been seen. Garsik is obviously desperate to get his hands on it. Ray and Claire, meanwhile, have other plans: they are going to try to take the formula for this new product for themselves and sell it to the highest-paying outside company. This proves difficult, though, as the events from years past lead both Ray and Claire to worry that the other will leave them high and dry and take the formula solely for themselves. When Claire ends up in a position of deep trust at Burkett & Randle, and Tully reveals that the product is a cure for baldness, the stakes are raised even higher, and both Ray and Claire race to get the formula before the product hits the market and makes Burkett & Randle millions.

Best part of story, including ending: This world-- pharmaceutical corporate warfare-- has never really been explored on screen, especially as a full-blown comedy, so I enjoyed its originality.

Best scene in story: The first time we meet Tully and Garsik, they are at an airport, getting off of planes, and beating each other up in slow motion. Visually, it's the most stunning part of the film.

Opinion about the main character: Ray is a bit more sympathetic than Claire, as he's a bit easier to read-- he clearly likes her more than she likes him, which makes him more of an underdog with the audience's rooting interest.
