An experienced gun fighter (Wayne)runs into an old friend (Mitchum), now a small town sheriff, while considering a job for a local rancher (Asner) involved in a range war. Conflict aries when Wayne relizes he has been hired to take care of his old friend , who now also has an interest in a woman both men know and who is now an important resident in the small town where the conflict takes place. Wayne has his hands full dealing with a greenhorn kid he picks up along the way, who can't use a gun but insists on tagging along while Wayne must deal with another gun fighter Asner has hired to takes Wayne's place and prove ultimately who is the best with a gun. EL DORADO is a movie produced and directed by Howard Hawks in 1966.

Cole -John Wayne- Thornton, a well-known hired gun, has just been hired by the rancher Bart Jason. On his way to Jason's, Thornton stops at El Dorado, a little Texas town whose sheriff is Robert Mitchum, an old friend of Thornton. Mitchum tells Cole that Jason has declared a personal war against the MacDonald family in order to take over the MacDonald ranch. So Cole will decline Jason's offer and stand up for the MacDonalds when Jason hires Nelse McLeod, another famous gunman.
