John, a motorcycle cop in Arizona patrols the desert roads with his partner Zipper. John's dream is to become a detective. He gets his chance when he finds a dead body; an apparent suicide, but he believes it's murder.

Harvey, the lead detective, agrees with John and promotes him.
While investigating, they discover that the victim was dealing drugs and hanging out with some young hippies.
The victim's crazy friend, Willie, claims that five thousand dollars was stolen from the victim.
After learning that John was sleeping with his girlfriend, Harvey busts him back down to motorcycle cop.
Following a hunch, John re-interviews Willie, who confesses to the murder because of jealousy.
After solving the murder, John discovers that Zipper had stolen the money. John confronts him and he pulls out his gun and begins firing wildly and John is forced to shoot and kill him.
Back on duty, John pulls over a van, but lets it go with just a warning. After the van drives off John realizes he still has the driver's license. He gives chase to return it.
The guys in the van are carrying drugs and they panick. The passenger pulls out a shotgun and blows John away.
