Empire is a gangster movie set in New York City, which is very similar to Scarface, from the plotline all the to the final scene. It stars John Leguizamo as the drug dealer Victor Cruz who sells his a unique brand of heroin in the South Bronx. Like Tony Montana in Scarface, Cruz wants to be legit, so when he accompanies his girlfriend Carmen (Delilah Cotto) to a white collar party, he meets an investor Jack, who's life he envies and decides to do business with him.

Although Jack offers Victor an opportunity to invest with him which will supposedly produce a lucrative return, he is a little short of the amount to buy in. He gets the money he needs from his drug supplier La Colombiana, who has a high interest rate regarding the amount she wants to be paid in return. Everything turns sour for Victor when it is revealed that Jack is a crook. This puts Vic in a difficult position wants revenge as well as his money which is imperatives dealing with repercussions from La Colombiana could prove to be fatal.
Best part of story, including ending:
I liked and disliked it. I disliked the fact it was the story of drug dealer trying to go straight. But like that it was done in an urban (NYC- Bronx) setting.
Best scene in story:
When they (Vic and Carmen) are in the car driving to the party and the scene depicts the differences between the Bronx and Manhattan.
Opinion about the main character:
I liked the fact that his main concern always seemed to be Carmen. When she was sick, pregnant etc., he was always by her side.
