Julia Roberts won an Oscar for this fascinating true-life movie about a down-on-her-luck single mother who guilt-trips her lawyer into giving her a job at his firm, then stumbles upon a conspiracy by a local energy company to cover up environmental misdeeds which have left the townspeople dying. She persuades her boss to fight for the people, and along the way she develops a pride in herself as she learns how to survive as the good guy.
