E.T. is easily the greatest Steven Spielberg movie ever! Elliott (Thomas) becomes friends with the alien whose most famous words are "E.T. phone home." They grow closer together as they learn different things about each other. This film is warm and inspirational, and it's a wonderful example of humans coexisting with aliens. It was shown again for its 20th anniversary celebration in 2002 (how appropriate!).

This beautiful movie is based on a ten year old boy who befriends a stranded botanist alien left by mistake. During the movie the alien and the boy become friends while
trying to contact the aliens family to pick him up. During the whole movie there are government agents trying to find E.T. They finally find him in the boys bathroom he and the boy are dying. Then E.T.'s friends come back and E.T. comes back to life and in the dramatic ending the boy and his friends fly to E.T.'s spaceship to so he can go back home.

A mission of small alien botanists is exploring an Earth forest when a human task force approaches and the alien ship takes off in a hurry, leaving one member stranded. E.T. longs to return to his home planet and builds a makeshift communication device to reach his people, but he grows sick and the government closes in. This charming 1982 science-fiction mega-hit directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Melissa Mathison based on a story dictated by Spielberg cost a surprisingly low $10.5 million to make, but grossed more than $700 million worldwide, plus another quarter billion in video rentals. It won four Oscars for effects, music, and sound. E.T.'s face was modeled on Albert Einstein, poet Carl Sandburg, and a pug dog, and his voice combined the voices of Debra Winger, 57-year-old Pat Welsh, and Spielberg.

This amazing movie starts out in a forest where aliens come down to earth form another planet for plants and tree samples to take back to their planet. The one alien is left by mistake and is chased by government officials down to a small town. He befriends a 10 yead old boy named Elliot after them teaching other things they elliot starts to feel Elliot's thoughts. Now that elliot realizes that E.T. was left by mistake they start to figure out how he can get back.

It's a story of an unusual friendship--a 10-year-old boy and an extra terrestrial! But it works, mainly due to the sensitivity of Director Steven Spielberg, who made cinematic history (as well as financial!). It was "the picture of the year" for viewers (Academy Awards be darned, although John Williams did win for his musical score).
