Jacques (Bacri), a country doctor, and his wife Carole (Nathalie Baye) live in a quiet mansion in the French countryside. One day, a young couple, Edith and François, settles in the house next to them. Soon, they all become friends and spend a lot of time together. Jacques falls in love with Edith and both lovers enjoy the perfect love during a few weeks. After Carole accidentally sees Jacques and Edith while they were kissing each other, harmony between both couples suddenly disappears. François leaves his wife and Edith realizes that her love for Jacques was nothing else than a whim.
