Flubber is a green material that has a particular affinity for being bouncy. It's discovered by Philip Brainard in his basement, an absent-minded but brilliant professor at Medfield College. Over his excitement, Philip misses his wedding with Sara Jean for the third time. She is understandably furious and is not impressed with Philip's excuses.

Also unhappy with the professor is Chester Hoenicker, a wealthy businessman whose son flunks Prof. Brainard's class. He sends two of his goons to Philip's home to teach him a lesson but they get knocked out by a golf ball with flubber on it. Philip also uses the material to make his car fly. While hovering above the town, he notices that his former associate Wilson Croft is busy making advances to his fiancee.
While Philip is out using flubber to help the college basketball team, his personal robot assistant Weebo releases the highly unstable flubber. Hoenicker, who is now allied with Croft, discovers the existence of flubber and has his henchmen steal it.
Philip reconciles with Sara with Weebo's help. The two confront Hoenicker and Croft and manage to retrieve the precious material. They eventually get married and set off on their honeymoon in their flubber powered flying car.
Best part of story, including ending:
The story is fun for young kids and perhaps it can encourage them to see science as something fun.
Best scene in story:
The scene where flubber is set loose upon Philip's house and proceeds to put on a green gooey show, complete with synchronized dancing.
Opinion about the main character:
Prof. Brainard is lucky to have a very understanding fiancee, given how he misses his own wedding day no less than three times. Beyond that, he's goofy and kids will find him funny.
