Unwinding at a Rio club, band singer Honey Hale and musician Fred Ayres (Rogers and Astaire, in their first movie dance together) dazzle the crowd with their quick mastery of the sexy local dance craze, the Carioca. One of their platforms is a revolving ring of fused grand pianos. At the Aviator Club, seeing Julio romancing Belinha, Roger realizes that Julio is the fiance. He suggests they let nature take its course so that Belinha can choose. Meanwhile, a banker who wishes the Hotel Atlantico's opening to flop so that he can turn the hotel over to a shady gambling syndicate, contrives to prevent Carlos De Rezende from getting an entertainment permit. Roger saves the day with his scheme for a spectacular air show. With the help of the Aviator Club and his band, dozens of chorus girls are secured to the wings of a fleet of planes, where they soar and perform synchronized kicks, sways, shimmies, and acrobatics, eliciting wild applause from the spectators below.

Carlos has written a note of advance appreciation to Roger. In it, he has clearly expressed his wish for his daughter to marry Julio. So, graciously, Roger has given the honor of flying his plane in the show to Julio. He has also decided to leave for Buenos Aires so that Julio and Belinha can marry. But from the sky, through binoculars, a dismayed Julio sees Roger's goodbye kiss to Belinha. When the show is over, he grabs Belinha, and drives to the airport to catch Roger's plane and settle things with him once and for all. The plane takes off. Before it lands, one of the three will bail out.
