New Yorker Alex Whitman (Perry) is sent to Las Vegas to oversee work on a new nightclub that's being built. Reluctantly he goes. Once there he meets a vibrant, attractive Mexican photographer named Isabel Funentes (Hayek) and the sparks fly between them immediately. They spend one night together but then Alex doesn't see Isabel again for another three months when she turns up at his place and tells him that she's pregnant. On a whim he proposes to her and they get married.

But marriage is not the smooth ride the two from very different cultures had anticipated. Both sets of parents have different ideas about what is best for their grown kids and Alex and Isabel are uncomfortably caught in the middle. When Isabel finds out that Alex does not live in Las Vegas permanently and that he wants her to move back to New York with him once the project is finished, Isabel leaves him. It takes the birth of their child on the American/Mexican border to make the two realize that despite their differences, they love each other.
