Less shocked is her husband Jonathan (Hugo Weaving), who set up the fake burglary as part of a scam to collect the insurance on a priceless, antique silver set. But when the police decide that the silver set was taken by an unknown accomplice, Jonathan thinks he's in the clear.

Enter Roland Copping (Phil Collins), a slightly twisted insurance investigator with a taste for practical jokes. Quickly ferretting out everything from the nature of the scam to the silver set's hiding place, Roland decides to shake down the Wheatses for a cut of the profits, viciously taunting them with his knowledge and the threat of exposure.
