The female character, played by Meg Ryan, goes to France in search of her fiance, who calls to tell her he has fallen in love. On the plane she meets the Kevin Kline character, a French thief. He slips his latest acquisition into her bags, in hopes of retrieving it after they reach their destination. They get separated & by the time he finds her again, her bags, along with his treasure, have been stolen. While they are searching for his treasure/her fiance, they find something neither expected...
