Nick Rawlings, a pilot, initially seams to have a life centered on his lovely wife, Jo Beth and son adorable son, Eric. His wife takes his vehicle in for maintenance and inadvertently finds a receipt for a very expensive jewelry store item. He arrives home after piloting in his commercial craft, and his son reminds him that he has an anniversary coming up, and that he is trying to get into his Dad's old military school. Jo Beth Is surprised to find her special anniversary gift is a cheap silver frame.

She is disappointed, and decides to get a private eye to check out her husband. On his next flight to Hawaii, Nick marries a cute young blond. His stress builds as he finds out that she flies back to Dallas from Hawaii with him. Unbeknownst to him, his son had been waiting at the airport to share the news that he had been accepted into military school, and had inadvertently saw his Dad and the new wife kissing at the airport. Jo Beth finds out about Nick's other life from the private eye, and starts the process of ruining him financially.
Eric, filled with grief, hides out for a while. Nick Stashes his new wife at his co-pilots apartment. As he is growing frantic, a third wife calls from her Chicago apartment, and tells him she is getting transferred to Dallas. Jo Beth confronts the second wife and has a heart attack. Jack's co-pilot, who is disappointingly aware of the whole truth, has to fill in Jack's wife from Hawaii, because Jack has stashed her in the co-pilots apartment. They all meet at the hospital. They all reject him. Later we see Jack watching his son, as he leaves for military school. It ends with another pretty lady flirting with him and her giving him her card.
