Alex is faced with a tough call once his mother wakes up from a coma eight months after the fall of the Berlin wall in East Germany. Should he break the news and triger a turmoil of mixed emotions in his socialist mother's heart or should he try to conceal the current political developments and offer his mother the excitement-free time the doctor recommended? Despite his sister's discontent, Alex chooses the second and makes ingenious use of his resourcefulness to constantly re-create the day to day reality as it used to be before the fall of Lenin.
