Pete Sandidge, a WWII pilot, is killed and leaves his girlfriend devastated. He returns as a guardian angel for novice pilot Ted Randall, helping him in his training. When Ted meets and falls for Pete's former girlfriend, things become complicated for all of them, but Pete eventually learns to let go of his feelings for her. She does the same and allows herself to be happy once again.
